"JAMES PAUL MacELREE - Except for a half dozen years of the practice of his profession, the career of James Paul MacElree as a lawyer has been identified with West Chester and Chester County, since his admission to the bar more than a third of a century ago. The son of a prominent Chester County attor- ney of note, he and his father have been noteworthy for their public activi- ties and association with community life and organizations. "James Paul MacElree was born at West Chester, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1887, son of Wilmer Worthington and Ella (Eyre) MacElree. He received his prelimi- nary education and was graduated from the West Chester State Normal School in 1902. After teaching for a year he matriculated at the University of Pennsyl- vania, class of 1907. At the end of his sophomore year he began the study of law in the offices of his father, Wilmer W. MacElree, and Joseph H. Baldwin, and was admitted to the bar of Chester County in 1908. From 1921 to 1924 Mr. MacElree practiced law with Brown and Williams, of Philadelphia, and continued professional activities in this same city until 1927. He then resumed practice in West Chester, where he is one of the outstanding figures in its legal fraternity. "A Republican in his political faith, Mr. MacElree's public services include that of First Assistant United States Attorney, Eastern District of Pennsyl- vania, from 1921 to 1923; and on divers occasions he has been Special Deputy Attorney-General of Pennsylvania. In his professional affiliations Mr. MacElree is a member of the Chester County Bar Association, of which he was president, 1938-39; member of the Pennsylvania State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is a member of the Chester County Historical Society and of the West Chester Golf and Country Club. He attends Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, at West Chester. "On November 23, 1910, at New Castle, Pennsylvania, James Paul MacElree married Marguerite FOxall, daughter of William B. and Mary (Wilkes) Foxall, and they are the parents of four children: 1. William Foxall, born September 26, 1911. 2. Betty Lou (MacElree) Gerstell, born February 24, 1914. 3. Dorothy (MacElree) Fordyce, born February 1, 1917. 4. Lawrence Eyre, born November 29, 1920."
